Sashidhar Jagdishan Faces Heat Over FIR
A police complaint was filed against Managing Director and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan by the Mehta family through the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust (LKMM Trust), which oversees Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. According to media reports, the FIR was registered following a court order on May 30, 2025, directing the police to investigate allegations of financial fraud.
The Mehta family claims that Jagdishan received Rs 2.05 crore from a former LKMM trustee to harass the father of a current trustee, with this payment documented in a handwritten diary submitted as evidence. Additionally, they allege that other crucial evidence was destroyed by former trustees. The court found sufficient grounds to file the FIR and directed the authorities to investigate.
HDFC Bank issued an official statement on Sunday, strongly denying the allegations and describing them as “malicious,” “baseless,” and a “gross misuse of the legal process.” The bank stated, “These allegations are completely false, outrageous, and a deliberate attempt to derail the bank’s ongoing loan recovery efforts.”
Who Is Sashidhar Jagdishan?
Sashidhar Jagdishan took the office on October 27, 2020 as MD and Chairman of HDFC.
Known as Sashi to his friends and colleagues, he joined HDFC Bank in 1996 and has played a crucial role in its growth. Starting as a manager in the Finance department, he became the Business Head – Finance in 1999 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2008.
He led the finance function for 12 years, significantly contributing to the bank’s strategic objectives.
In 2019, Jagdishan was appointed as the “Strategic Change Agent of the Bank” and took on additional responsibilities in Legal & Secretarial, Human Resources, Corporate Communication, Infrastructure & Administration, and CSR. With over 30 years of experience, 27 of which he spent at HDFC Bank, Jagdishan previously worked at Deutsche Bank AG, Mumbai, for three years.
He holds a Science degree (Physics) from Mumbai University, is a qualified Chartered Accountant, and has a Master’s degree in Economics of Money, Banking & Finance from the University of Sheffield, UK. Born and raised in Matunga, Mumbai, he lives in the city with his wife and son. In his free time, Jagdishan enjoys cooking, with a particular fondness for ‘thayir shadam’ (curd rice), and he also loves listening to Carnatic music, reading, and cycling for fitness.
