Telangana Formation Day 2025: People in Telangana will celebrate the state’s 11th foundation day on June 2 this year. Telangana is currently India’s youngest state, formed on June 2, 2014. Every year, people throughout the state organise and participate in a variety of events to honour the struggle and sacrifice that led to the creation of the state.
Telangana Formation Day 2025: History
The Congress Working Committee passed a resolution recommending the creation of Telangana as a separate state on July 1, 2013. At the time, protests were ongoing to demand the formation of the state. The Union Government established a committee consisting of a group of ministers to study the issue.
The group prepared a report, leading the Union Government to accept the demand for the creation of the new state. It was followed by the approval of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in the Parliament in 2014.
At the time, it was decided that Hyderabad will be designated as the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh as well as Telangana at least for the next ten years.
Telangana Formation Day 2025: Significance
The Telangana Formation Day is an occasion to pay tribute to the hardships faced by the people of Telangana in their pursuit to have a separate state. The creation of the state was the result of over half a century of struggle and sacrifice. The special day celebrates the victory of the people in Telangana to carve a separate identity apart from Andhra Pradesh.
