Shonda Rhimes will be the first ever woman to receive the inaugural Edinburgh Fellowship awarded by Edinburgh TV Festival.
As a guest of honor she will share her journey, struggles and deliver a masterclass on how industry is changing culturally, creatively, and economically.
Rhimes is best known for three dramas Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Scandal which made her the first woman to have three shows having 100 episodes. She is also very popular for creating hit shows, such as Bridgerton, The Residence and How to Get Away with Murder.
In addition, she’s also been honored with the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her efforts towards betterment of US-UK relations.
According to Variety, Rowan Woods, the creative director of Edinburgh TV Festival announced the news with a statement that reads, “This year the festival celebrates an incredible 50 years of agenda-setting thought leadership across the international TV industry.”
“We’re delighted to mark this milestone with the creation of the Edinburgh Fellowship, which recognises significant creative and cultural achievement in television, and we can’t think of anyone more fitting to receive this inaugural honour than Shonda Rhimes, one of the international industry’s most respected creative powerhouses and someone whose global cultural impact cannot be understated.”
