Global Cues
Asian markets edged lower, mirroring overnight losses on Wall Street as rising concerns over the U.S. fiscal deficit dampened sentiment. A surge in long-term Treasury yields, following weak demand in a recent bond auction, stoked fears about U.S. borrowing levels and refocused attention on fiscal discipline. This cautious sentiment weighed on the recent rebound in global risk assets.
By 10:19 a.m. Tokyo time, S&P 500 futures rose 0.2%, indicating a potentially positive U.S. open. In Asia, Japan’s Topix declined 0.5%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.3%. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.6%, while the Shanghai Composite edged up 0.2%. In Europe, Euro Stoxx 50 futures were down 0.5%, signaling a subdued open ahead.
