WASHINGTON — People around the country turned out Saturday for protests against Donald Trump, which were timed with the president’s military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary and coinciding with his 79th birthday.
The parade in the nation’s capital featured more than 6,000 soldiers, 50 military aircraft and 150 vehicles, according to defense officials. Rain threatened to disrupt the event, leading parade organizers to move up the start time by 30 minutes.
The lavish display of the country’s military faced some pushback, with critics charging that such imagery is reminiscent of what countries like North Korea do.
Meanwhile, “No Kings” protests were scheduled in all 50 states to counter Trump’s celebration in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Boise, Idaho.
