M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit has passed away at the age of 87.
Harlan Ball, her publicist, confirmed that the actress, who played Major Margaret J “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the sitcom from 1972 to 1983, breathed her last on Friday, May 30, at her New York City home.
The reason for her death in the early morning hours has been revealed as natural causes, according to People.
The late actress was best known for playing “Hot Lips,” a head nurse in the Korean War, on the CBS series, which earned her numerous accolades.
Swit bagged two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, four Golden Globe nominations and a TV Land Impact Award.
Her final acting credit came in 2019 in a movie titled Play the Flute, before guest starring on various TV shows including, Mission: Impossible, Batman: The Animated Series, Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-O, Bonanza and The Love Boat, Mannix.
In addition, the Emmy Award-winnin actress appeared in several films and TV movies, such as Beer, Forest Warrior, Race With the Devil, S.O.B., The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Whoops Apocalypse and more.
Her contributions to the industry were celebrated in 1989 when Swit was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
