Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson is opening up about her high-risk pregnancy before she delivered twin girls this month.
The singer, 33, opened up about her heartbreaking journey in intensive care this month in an Instagram post shared on Sunday.
“Nothing or no one will ever be able to prepare you as a parent for NICU,” Jesy began in the caption to a photo of her in the hospital bed with her newborn twins resting on her chest while the first-time dad also leaned in with a smile.
“It’s the most scary overwhelming feeling of emotions not being able to feel like you can protect your babies. Naturally as a mother you just want to hold them and comfort them when they cry but you can’t because there are what feels like a million wires coming out of them.
Jesy went on to describe the overwhelming experience about having her newborns placed in neonatal intensive care (NICU).
“Tubes and masks in the way with people poking and prodding them, it breaks your heart into a million pieces. But slowly as the days go by and they get stronger and wires start to come away, moments like this feel like a dream,” she detailed.
Jesy, who gave birth to twin daughters at 31 weeks plus five days, expressed relief at her babies’ survival as they remained in the hospital after being diagnosed with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome—a rare condition where blood is unevenly shared between identical twins connected by a single placenta.
“Having them reunited for the first time ever today was the most magical feeling I will never be able to describe. The strongest little girls I’ve ever known who really do have the most inspiring story to tell.”
Jesy, who welcomed daughters Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster with partner Zion Foster on May 15, previously revealed that her newborn twins will appear in a new six-part Prime documentary series about the singer’s high-risk pregnancy.
The streaming giant has officially confirmed the project with Jesy as she shared a photo on social media.
The documentary is also expected to cover her life-altering decision to leave Little Mix in 2020, her battle with mental health, and the controversies that followed.
