King Charles on Friday fired a ceremonial cannon during a visit to the Royal Regiment of Artillery in Salisbury, his first as Captain General.
The royal family releases photo, videos and details of the monarch’s visit on it’s social media accounts and official website.
A statement issued by the Buckingham said, “The King has visited the Royal Regiment of Artillery in Larkhill, meeting military personnel and their families from the 21 regiments that form the Royal Regiment.”
It said, “His Majesty also heard about the Regiment’s training and equipment – before being invited to fire a L118 Light Gun himself!”
“The King, on his debut visit to the Royal Regiment of Artillery, met military personnel from the 21 regiments that form the Royal Regiment to hear about their training and viewed a selection of ‘Find and Strike’ equipment.”
“In the Officers Mess, The King met a variety of soldiers and heard about the Royal Artillery’s institution and heritage. His Majesty was shown artillery uniform of his ancestor King George V in the regimental museum.”
The statement said that the Royal Regiment of Artillery was founded in 1716 and is believed to have served in every conflict the British Army has been involved with.
To commemorate the King’s first visit as Captain General, the monarch was presented with an engraved 105mm Cartridge which was fired during his coronation as a gift from the Royal Regiment.
