Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that he has formally nominated former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, handing him a letter addressed to the Nobel Committee during a dinner at the White House.
“He’s forging peace as we speak—in one country, in one region after another,” Netanyahu remarked while praising Trump’s diplomatic efforts across the globe.
Trump has previously received several Nobel Peace Prize nominations from supporters and lawmakers, and has publicly expressed frustration over being repeatedly overlooked for the prestigious honor.
The former president has criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee for not recognizing his role in mediating high-stakes conflicts, including those between India and Pakistan, as well as Serbia and Kosovo.
In a related development, Pakistan in June also formally recommended Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, crediting his intervention in de-escalating the 2025 military standoff between India and Pakistan, which helped both nuclear-armed neighbors step back from the brink of war.
However, as the US joined Israel’s war with Iran and launched attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities, opposition lawmakers, including the PTI, activists, authors and ex-diplomats, criticised the move. Subsequently, a resolution was submitted in the Senate by the JUI-F to rescind and withdraw the decision.
Trump has also demanded credit for “keeping peace” between Egypt and Ethiopia and brokering the Abraham Accords, a series of agreements aiming to normalise relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
He campaigned for office as a “peacemaker” who would use his negotiating skills to quickly end conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, although both conflicts are still raging more than five months into his presidency.
