Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy on Tuesday, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite being put in to bat first, RCB managed 190/9, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 43 off 35 balls.

The decisive moment came through Krunal Pandya’s match-winning spell and the precise pace attack of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal, sealing a historic first IPL title for RCB.

For PBKS, it was a case of too little, too late. Shashank’s blistering knock of 61* off 30 balls (including three fours and six sixes) wasn’t enough to chase down the target in their first final appearance in 11 years.

An emotional Kohli, eyes moist, kissed the Motera turf after the final ball. He was quickly embraced by his teammates and later celebrated the victory with former RCB stars AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle.

“This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It’s been 18 long years. I’ve given this team my youth, prime and experience. I’ve tried to win it every season, gave it everything I have,” Kohli said.

“To finally have it is an unbelievable feeling. Never thought this day would come, I was overcome with emotion after the last ball was bowled. Gave each and every ounce of my energy and it’s an amazing feeling.”
