Midfielder Federico Redondo and goalkeeper Drake Callender are both close to departing Inter Miami, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Redondo is set to join LaLiga’s Elche on a permanent transfer, with the player currently in Spain to complete the deal, a source said, while Charlotte FC is finalizing a deal for Callender, sources confirmed.
Redondo joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2024 campaign from Argentine team Argentinos Juniors, initially signing a contract through the 2027 MLS season with a club option for 2028.
He totaled two goals and four assists in 60 appearances across all competitions, alternating between a starter and substitute under current head coach Javier Mascherano. He served as the partner of Inter Miami staple Sergio Busquets in the midfield.
The 22-year-old formed part of the 2024 Inter Miami team that lifted the MLS Supporters’ Shield and set the league record for most points in a single campaign.
Born in Spain and the son of former Real Madrid and Argentina great Fernando Redondo, Federico Redondo previously represented Argentina at the Olympics, 2024 CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament and played with the under 20 team.
The news of Redondo’s transfer first reported by Spanish radio station COPE.
Callender, meanwhile, initially joined the Herons in December 2019 ahead of the club’s inaugural MLS season, playing with Inter Miami CF II before eventually debuting and becoming the starting goalkeeper for the first team in 2022.
His efforts in 2022 propelled Callender to become a finalist for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. He went on to record 92 regular-season MLS appearances for the club, but only three of those have come in 2025.
Callender kicked off the 2025 season on the sidelines after suffering an injury while playing with the United States men’s national team in January, prior to losing that starting role to Oscar Ustari under Mascherano.
GiveMeSport first reported the news of Callender’s potential move.
