New Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules: In a major change, Indian Railways has announced new rules for the Tatkal ticket booking scheme. From July 1, 2025 onwards, only Aadhaar authenticated users will be able to book Tatkal train tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website/app, according to a directive issued by the Railway Ministry to all railway zones on June 10, 2025. Also, from July 15, 2025, passengers must undergo an Aadhaar-linked OTP verification process for Tatkal reservations.
It stated that the move aims “to ensure that the benefits of the Tatkal Scheme are reaped by the common end users.” It said, “With effect from 01-07-2025, tickets under the Tatkal scheme can be booked through the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/ its app only by Aadhaar authenticated users.” The circular further reads, “Aadhaar-based OTP authentication shall also be made compulsory for Tatkal bookings from July 15, 2025.”
The circular also said, “Tatkal tickets shall be available for booking through computerized PRS counters of Indian Railways/authorized agents only after authentication of a system-generated OTP, which shall be sent through the system on the mobile number furnished by the user at the time of booking. This shall also be implemented by 15-07-2025.
It also stated, “Authorised ticketing agents of Indian Railways shall not be allowed to book opening day Tatkal tickets during the first thirty minutes of opening of Tatkal booking for AC as well as non AC classes i.e. they shall not be allowed to book opening day Tatkal tickets from 1000 hours to 1030 hours for air-conditioned classes and from 1100 hours to 1130 hours for non-air-conditioned classes.”
