Stress management is less obvious but equally important. Cortisol, a hormone that increases blood sugar levels, is secreted due to chronic stress. Stress-reduction activities such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing, or even recreation can reduce this burden of stress and improve glycemic control.
Adequate sleep 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night impacts the balance of the hormones and insulin sensitivity. Poor sleep has been shown to trigger hunger for high-sugar foods and destroy glucose metabolism.
In addition to that, herbal supplements such as fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, amla, and berberine have been promising to manage blood sugar, but are to be taken under the direction of physicians.
Lastly, checking blood sugar levels at regular intervals and undergoing routine HbA1c tests empower patients to be vigilant and motivated.
