Hindustan Zinc Block Deal: Shares of Hindustan Zinc slumped 7% to Rs 452.50 in morning trade on June 18 after its parent company, Vedanta, offloaded a 1.71% stake — amounting to 7.2 crore shares — via block deals. The estimated deal size stands at Rs 3,323 crore. The floor price for the transaction was set at Rs 460.5 per share, representing a discount of over 5% from Hindustan Zinc’s previous close of Rs 485.95 on the NSE.
According to BSE data, Vedanta held a 63.42% stake in Hindustan Zinc as of December 31, 2024. The block deal was facilitated by DAM Capital Advisors and Citi. Vedanta’s stake sale comes amid broader fundraising efforts and strategic realignments.
Adding to the pressure, Hindustan Zinc shares extended their losing streak for the sixth consecutive session. The stock had already declined over 5% on Tuesday and has shed more than 9% over the last week — even as the company announced a significant Rs 12,000 crore expansion plan aimed at boosting capacity and meeting future demand.
In its Q4 FY25 earnings report, Hindustan Zinc reported a 4.3% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,583 crore, compared to Rs 2,700 crore in Q4 FY24. Revenue from operations came in at Rs 8,820 crore, slightly lower than Rs 8,863 crore a year ago.
The decline was attributed to lower metal prices and higher input costs, though partially offset by increased volumes.
The company reaffirmed its focus on long-term capacity expansion, including its upcoming 250 ktpa smelter in Debari and expanded mining infrastructure across Rajasthan — projects expected to be completed within 36 months.
