During the rainy season, incidents of snakes, scorpions, and other poisonous creatures entering homes increase. As their natural habitats become flooded, these creatures seek safe shelter, often turning towards human settlements. Snake rescuer Bablu Singh explains that such animals do not come to harm anyone, but simply seek safety.
However, with basic precautions, such encounters can be avoided. Singh advises not to panic if a snake is spotted. “Avoid making noise or trying to chase it away yourself. Immediately inform a local snake rescue team,” he says.
To prevent their entry, it is important to ensure that water does not collect around the house, drains are regularly cleaned, and cracks in walls are sealed. Avoid keeping piles of wood or bricks, as these can serve as hiding places for snakes. Always keep storerooms and bathrooms well-lit, and never enter dark spaces without a torch or light.
If no rescuer is available nearby and a snake enters the home, Bablu Singh recommends not disturbing it. “If left alone, it will often leave on its own,” he adds.
Home Remedies Can Help Too
Bablu Singh also shares a few simple home remedies to keep snakes away. Spraying a mixture of lemon juice and garlic-infused water can deter them, as snakes dislike the strong smell. Placing mustard oil and camphor in corners is another effective method. Marigold plants are also known to naturally repel snakes and other poisonous creatures due to their scent.
