England boss Thomas Tuchel blasts lack of urgency, quality and energy

Thomas Tuchel criticised England’s “lack of urgency, lack of quality and lack of energy” after watching them scrape past Andorra 1-0 in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

England were held by a team ranked 173rd in the world until Harry Kane redirected a pass from Noni Madueke into the top of the net in the 50th minute.

Tuchel is the first England coach to win his first three games in charge without conceding a goal, but he did not try to put any gloss on a poor display.

“We are not happy of course,” he said. “We lost the momentum completely after the first 25 minutes and couldn’t get it back.

“We ended up in a period that wasn’t good enough with a lack of urgency and a lack of quality and a lack of energy.”

England captain Kane was also unhappy with the display.

“We need to be better for sure,” Kane said postmatch. “It’s not one that many will remember, and we had good spells, but we take the three points and move on.

“We kept giving it away and that gave them a bit of confidence and energy. At 1-0 with five to 10 minutes to go you have to be careful.”

England remain top of Group K with nine points after wins against Albania and Latvia.

England host Senegal in a friendly on Tuesday.
