Eminem wanted Mariah Carey to play his mother in 8 Mile, as per the claim of a top producer.
The Lose Yourself rapper portrayed the role of an aspiring artist Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith in the 2002 hip-hop film, and music producer Damion “Damizza” Young just revealed that Eminem contacted him to ask if the All I Want for Chirstmas is You singer could play the role of Rabbit’s mom.
Despite her being four years younger than the iconic The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) album maker, he reportedly still found Mariah to be the right choice.
During an appearance on the TFU Podcast, Damizza – who first worked with Mariah in 1998, talked about how he got Mariah to meet with Eminem.
“So I go to Mariah, and I’m like, ‘Look, Eminem wants to meet you,’ and she’s like, ‘No,'” recalling his first attempt.
Damizza revealed that his attempts were back when he was also trying to convince aspiring actress, Mariah not to take a role in Glitter.
The music producer then claimed that the Emotions crooner changed her mind about speaking to Eminem after he explained the 52-year-old rapper had a movie offer for her instead of a music collaboration.
Damizza also stated how he begged the Mockingbird hitmaker to not offer Mariah the part but a conversation was still set up between the two artists.
On a phone call, when Mariah was told by Eminem, “I want you to play my mother,” Damizza alleged, “She did not like that s**t at all. Her insecurities kicked in big time.”
