The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced stricter rules for purchasing new SIM cards to curb fraud and protect users. Under the new guidelines, an Aadhaar card is now mandatory for issuing a new SIM. Users can also check how many mobile numbers are currently linked to their Aadhaar.

To tackle rising cases of fraud and fake calls, the DoT has not only tightened the process of SIM issuance but also launched an initiative to deactivate fake numbers.

If someone has fraudulently obtained a SIM card using your Aadhaar, it can be extremely dangerous. Such misuse can compromise your privacy and even land you in legal trouble. If illegal activity is carried out using a number linked to your Aadhaar, you could be held accountable.

Therefore, it’s essential to check how many SIMs are issued in your name and take action if you find any unauthorised numbers.

How to Check and Block Unauthorised SIMs:

  • Visit the official portal: https://www.sancharsaathi.gov.in
  • Go to Citizen-Centric Services and click on the TAFCOP option.
  • Enter your mobile number, fill in the captcha, and verify using the OTP sent to your phone.
  • Once verified, you’ll see a list of all mobile numbers linked to your Aadhaar.
  • If you spot a number that you don’t recognise, select “Not My Number” and report it for deactivation.

Stay Alert, Stay Safe

With cyber fraud on the rise, it’s crucial to monitor the use of your Aadhaar. Many people unknowingly share their Aadhaar details, which can be misused by malicious actors. Checking the SIMs linked to your Aadhaar helps prevent identity theft and shields you from legal complications.

By using the Sanchar Saathi portal, you can safeguard your identity and help build a safer digital environment. Stay vigilant and regularly check your SIM activity—report any suspicious numbers without delay.
