Pippa Scott, the actress best known for starring in films like The Searchers and Auntie Mame, has passed away at the age of 90.
The news was broken by The Hollywood Reporter which reported that the actress died of congenital heart failure on May 2, 2025, at her Santa Monica home. Her daughter, Miranda Tollman confirmed her mother’s passing away.
For those unversed, Pippa was the daughter of Laura Straub, an actress, and Allan Scott, a renowned screenwriter behind several Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals, including Top Hat and Swing Time.
She was born in Los Angeles in 1935 and was the niece to Adrian Scott, a blacklisted screenwriter and one of the Hollywood Ten targeted during the McCarthy era for his Communist Party affiliation.
During her early career days, she explored interests like studying landscape architecture at California State Polytechnic University, but eventually went for acting. She refined her acting skills at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
She made her Broadway debut in 1956 with Child of Fortune, a gig which also earned her a Theatre World Award.
Her filmography also included roles in As Young As We Are, Auntie Mame, My Six Loves, and Cold Turkey, starring alongside Dick Van Dyke. On television, she appeared in popular series such as Mr. Lucky, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Mission: Impossible, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
